Heir to the Vessalius Duke House, Oz, has just turned fifteen. His life is carefree and wealthy, darkened only by the continuous lack of his dad. At his coming of age service, every thing changes. For no reason he is able to pick out, Oz is cast into the prison called the "Abyss", simply to be saved with a girl called Alice, the Bloodstained Black Rabbit. The puzzle there starts as Oz unravels the enigma behind Alice, the Abyss, and the peculiar organization called "Pandora". Chains Beings in the Abyss that were at one-point person, changed by the Will of the Abyss. They have to sign a contract using a contractor that is human to be able to depart the Abyss. People must be repeatedly consumed by chains involved with prohibited contracts as a way to achieve power. Some chains, like Humpty Dumpty, can have several contracts. When they do even more will be slowed down by the revolution on a prohibited contractor seal. The sole Chains that have been once not people are Oz the B-Rabbit Cheshire and Cat who are the sole chains that will develop a form that is human due to them being creatures as well as in the instance of Oz a filled thing while the others developed semi-human looks.

We're doing Old World riffs on the romance and tawdriness of the ring. There are no elephants in tutus walking on their hind legs; it's slit-eyed jugglers and daring death-loving trapeze artists and sad Pierrot clowns, even if the Pierrot clown - our hero, Torinosu, 'Bird's Nest' - has a false red nose. The tawdriness comes from the circus master pimping out his performers to anyone willing to pay. (...) And there's tanbi decadence - ghosts who wander into the action looking like teenaged girls even if they're the hero's brother, and abandoned neurotic women with a thing for inflicting pain, and buracon and possible murder and unspoken pining and a hero who looks about to perish at any moment from terminal angst.

Mochidzuki Renta is an aspiring college student, trying to support himself while studying for the entrance exam of his preferred school. He's started renting the spare room in the Hanano bath house. What this means is that he's living with the sweet, hardworking, innocent, and quite beautiful Bandai Sakurako, who runs the bathhouse. They are growing to like each other more and more, but one thing could potentially sabotage their budding romance. Every other woman Renta meets, even his college entrance cram school teacher, seems desperate to get in his pants. And Renta meets a fair amount of women, since the girls from the dorm of the nearby nursing school often come to the bathhouse. Shouldn't be hard to get her given the prevalent manners...
