Apollo’s Song follows the tragic journey of Shogo, a young man whose abusive childhood has instilled in him a loathing for love so profound he finds himself compelled to acts of violence when he is witness to any act of intimacy or affection whether by human or beast. His hate is such that the gods intervene, cursing Shogo to experience love throughout the ages ultimately to have it ripped from his heart every time. From the Nazi atrocities of World War II to a dystopian future of human cloning, Shogo loses his heart, in so doing, healing the psychic scars of his childhood hatred.
The main character (the blonde ponytailed guy - yeah, guy) is Aramiya Satoshi, who main ability is shapeshifting into any animal ...though at a few points he has plants growing out of him, so my guess is he can shapeshift into any living thing (including an elephant and a lion) I'm not sure if he was naturally born that way or if he was a biological experiment. Anyway, he's a pretty easygoing guy who just wants to be left alone to enjoy his solitary life in the middle of a junkyard, but apparently some army or another is always after him because of his ability, though he is able to fight off entire tank battalions before breakfast. Nevertheless, nothing is as easy as it seems, from the rift of time humanoids called Moaerus emerge and have a vendetta against his group, for some unidentified reason at the beginning, but later is revealed that the world was rebooted, so to speak. And the souls of those who defeated them in the previous cycle have reincarnated, and the only survivor of the massacre, wants to take revenge on them, first reviving the leader of the Moaerus, and later remaking the world like it used to be in reality, full of nightmarish creatures (The designs of the monsters will be inspired in those of Hieronymus Bosch, Salvatore Rosa, and Zdizlaw Beksinski.

The ending will be either with the world becoming a post-apocalyptic fantasy world, a nightmarish landscape with advanced technology but terrifying creatures, or a more upbeat ending with the heroes winning, but the world pretty much screwed either way.
